Kezia squinted against the brilliant sunlight pouring through the window. She closed her eyes and arched her back in a stretch to work the kinks out of her overworked body. All was quiet in the brothel, but that was typical for this early hour. A long night of drinking and carousing meant lazy mornings for the inhabitants of Achmed’s. She smiled as she reached for her newborn son. He was evidence of her illicit lifestyle, and at first the thought of pregnancy had brought shame an...

I've been trying to figure out the best way to develop fillable forms for the company I work for. We'd like to take all of our forms (now hard copy) and make them interactive online, so that our clients can simply fill the form out at our website, click "submit," and the information will be sent to us without using any paper at all. I've been working with Adobe Acrobat, and have discovered how to make the forms fillable, but the hassle end users will have submitting the information is way ...

As I was hopping all over JU the other day, reading various blogs, some of the titles were very clever. I found myself wondering where the titles come from. Some of them were very appropriate... others seemed forced (and sometimes unrelated) to the topic. Here is a random poll. Do you write your article first and THEN title it? Or do you think of a title immediately, as soon as you decide what your article's topic is? Perhaps some of both? Do you consciously think of how your title can ...

How about a game of trivia? Going through the letters of the alphabet (more than once, depending on participation), post the name of a person, place, or thing in the Bible, along with the Scripture it's found in.... we'll call it Bible Trivia 101? LOL.... I'll start to give you an example... A........... ADAM:And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam cal...

Imagine the scene. You've been a victim for years. You wake in the morning stiff and bruised, the recipient of repeated beatings and verbal assaults. You struggle with feelings of inferiority and insecurity. Then one day a knight in shining armor comes on the scene and plucks you from your misery. A respected police officer, he takes you to his home and you become part of a family. For the first time in your life you experience the balm of encouragement, love, and protection. You find...

These were my son's exact words as I tried to convince him that he would love the book I was going to read him. He refused to believe that MY choice of reading could possibly be something he would enjoy, particularly since it didn't contain pictures. He fussed and fidgited (however you spell that), his voice escalating with each protest. He grew so loud and impertinent that his father entered the picture. Joel promptly swept him into the other room and sternly informed him that he was NEVER ...

From a missionary worker in China: "For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith..." Eph. 3:16-17a Most workers for our organization must learn a foreign language. For me, it's Mandarin Chinese. While studying, I was int...

It's been a rough week. Christmas was wonderful... don't get me wrong... but it seems like it was months ago now. On Wednesday, hubby and I took our beloved weimeraner (Woody) down to the vet's and stayed with him while they put him to sleep. It was heartbreaking, particularly for Joel, but the vet was SO reassuring... kept telling us she was very glad we had made this decision and that we were definitely doing the right thing. That was a help. It about tore my heart out... I was sad abo...

Worship, or Service? God has put the concept of worship on my heart this week… perhaps it's the Christmas season, and focusing on the birth of Jesus, but it seems that over and over again, He has been pointing me to look at worship. RALPH WALDO EMERSON: "A person will worship something, have no doubt about that. We may think our tribute is paid in secret in the dark recesses of our hearts, but it will out. That which dominates our imaginations and our thoughts will determine our live...

Happy Birthday, Jesus. I'm so glad it's Christmas. All the tinsel and lights and the presents are nice, but the real gift is You. Happy Birthday, Jesus. I'm so glad it's Christmas. All the carols and bells make the holiday swell and it's all about You. Happy Birthday, Jesus. Jesus, I love you. ~Tommy Barnett

I attended an awesome game Saturday and got to see the Pats mop the floor with Tampa Bay. It was a great game... but dang! It was COLD!! That's ok... it's all good. This week, however, has been pretty depressing. First I discovered that Johnny Damon is heading to the *hisssssssssss* Evil Empire. Seriously, I don't harbor any ill will toward him. I understand that baseball is his career and he has to operate within the parameters of what's best for him. Sure will miss him though. Grrrrrrrr...

I'll list mine... feel free to share yours Did you know.... That "Bethlehem" means "House of Bread"? What an appropriate name for the birthplace of the One who ref...

Ok... for the record, I have nothing against the phrase "Happy Holidays." At least I didn't until this year. I never thought a thing about it... until it became a substitute for "Merry Christmas" in a blatant attempt to eliminate religion from Christmas. Goodness knows we wouldn't want to offen the what? 8 percent that have a problem with Christmas? One of my friends is a Science teacher at our local High School and he told me the staff were informed in no uncertain terms that under no ci...
